Welcome to my digital portfolio! My name is Julie Blackwell, and I am currently the middle school instructional coach at an independent school in Houston. This is my 9th year in education. Prior to my current role, I taught 6th and 8th grade English at the same school and 6th grade reading at a Houston charter school for 3 years. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014 with a degree in communication studies and a business foundations certificate.
I completed my master's degree in Learning, Technology, and Design at Houston Baptist University and the work in this portfolio is a result of my coursework throughout the program. My portfolio is updated with my current professional work as well. As an instructional coach, I work closely with instructors to identify areas for growth and implement change using research-based practices. I guide educators through the process of making true transformation in their instructional practices through targeted supported and reflective practices. As a coach and learning experience designer, I strive to create a learning environment that is active, innovative, and nurturing which provides unique opportunities for learners to apply content in new and creative ways. This is accomplished through experiences in discussions, gamified learning, media and arts project creation tools, and reflective practices. My goal is to continue to learn and infuse new methods of design and instruction into my courses to promote more effective learner growth regarding content, skill, and interpersonal development. I am currently seeking the opportunity to bring my skills into creative corporate environments to develop effective strategies for employee growth and development. |
