Gamification is the use of game mechanics and design to supplement non-game situations by increasing engagement, participation, problem-solving and competition. In this sense, gamifying does not create anything new, it only amplifies the effect of an existing experience by applying the motivational techniques that make games engaging and competitive. This lesson highlights the instruction of sentence types by focusing on pre-learning to access prior knowledge, gamified group activities, and independent practice. Each of these elements of the lesson incorporate different gaming elements through the use of the programs Quizizz, Jeopardy Labs, and Gimkit
