Applying Gamification Presentation
Gamification is the application of typical gaming elements within learning experiences such as point scoring, competition, narrative paths, levels, and awards or achievement, My group presented in response to a specific scenario where gamification needed to be applied effectively in a situation where students with limited interaction in online educational technology needed to engage in a course within a learning management system. Gamification could help students explore the new LMS and have an interactive learning experience in a low-stakes and engaging way. Games encourage audience engagement, and for many teenagers, gaming through tech tools is intuitive. Gamification could also be used in relation to content mastery meaning that instructors could employ a gaming program to check for student understanding of the course materials or navigation elements of the LMS. Using gamification would also provide an opportunity to collect feedback and data about if students are understanding the training materials. Using game methods will encourage interactive participation with the learning materials and assess progress towards the training outcomes rather than just talking through a presentation and relying on the student or family to figure out how to apply the information. It can also provide a way for students to begin problem solving together and communicating through gaming in the training sessions so that they will discover how to build community online.
